Statistics of violence in Mongolia
In 2017, the National Statistics Committee conducted a national survey on gender-based violence. According to the results of the study, one out of three women (31.2%) in Mongolia have experienced physical or sexual violence during their lifetime. Within the family, for example, 6 out of 10 women (57.9%) were abused by their husband/partner during their lifetime. 1 in 4 of these women (26.5%) have never approached or told anyone.
Recent statistics show an increase in the number of crimes and misdemeanors related to domestic violence. For example
In 2019, 985 crimes related to domestic violence were registered, while in 2020, there were 1,138, an increase of 153 cases or 15.5 percent from the previous year. Crimes against human health and rape have increased within the family. For example, in 2020, 18 people were killed, 953 people were injured, and 928.3 million MNT were incurred as a result of domestic violence. Compared to the previous year, the number of people who died increased by 2.3 times, the number of people injured increased by 30.2 percent, and the amount of damage increased by 54.7 percent.
In 2019, there were 8,962 cases of domestic violence, and in 2020, there was an increase of 14.9 percent, cases reached 10,306.
